Renewing Virtue: Getting Started
Welcome to Renewing Virtue, an introduction to and overview of the Christian virtues – courage, wisdom, temperance, justice, faith, hope, and love – and a resounding call for renewing these virtues in our day.
Your resources for this course include:
- Eight brief videos, one to introduce each lesson. These should be played at the beginning of the discussion session for each lesson. You can play them on your computer and either let your group look on, or project them for a larger group to watch.
- The study materials for Renewing Virtue. These eight lessons include daily readings in the Christian virtues, together with questions for reflection, additional readings, and daily activities for growing in virtue. This is a large study guide, so you will probably want to email it to your class members and instruct them to print their own copies, perhaps weekly as needed. You may also want to make a few additional copies, in case new people join your group each week.
This course is designed to serve as a combination of personal study and group discussion. Everyone in the course should work through the materials for the week – seven lessons for seven days. This is followed by a discussion session, in which the leader uses the questions for reflection and the daily and weekly readings and activities to engage the class in a lively discussion on the subjects of this course.
We hope you will find this to be a challenging and fruitful study of a most important topic for our Christian faith.
